چکیده

A Ka-band 1024-channel passive millimeter wave (PMMW) imager with 1 GHz bandwidth called BHU-1024 has been developed by Beihang University for security screening. uses linear phased array to obtain resolution in the horizontal direction and aperture synthesis vertical direction. The non-ideal characteristics of hardware cause decrease system sensitivity always blur reconstructed image, hampering applications where high accurate recognition are emphasized. Hence, effective calibration is a prerequisite ensure quality image. In this paper, overall approach presented, focusing on main errors relevant instrument design: basic correlator counts preprocessed correct comparators offset quadrature error. residual estimated continuously sweeping local oscillator (LO) phase. And baseline error, novel approach, which makes use an external noise source mounted metal frame, proposed tackle problem. results simulation measurement demonstrate validity approach. Finally, actual calibrated data used reconstruct further validates process.

Passive Millimeter-Wave Imaging for Security

How It Works Unlike X-Ray systems with their ionizing radiation, and active Microwave systems which bathe the subject in RF, passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) imaging systems read the natural thermal energy in environment, much like an infrared camera. Unfortunately, infrared wavelengths are too short to pass through clothing, so we choose a longer wavelength of 3 millimeters (specifically 80 to 1...

Passive millimeter-wave imaging with compressive sensing

Passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) imagers using a single radio-meter, called single pixel imagers, employ raster scanning to produce images. A serious drawback of such a single pixel imaging system is the long acquisition time needed to produce a high-fidelity image, arising from two factors: (a) the time to scan the whole scene pixel by pixel and (b) the integration time for each pixel to achieve...

Receiver Design for Passive Millimeter Wave (PMMW) Imaging

Passive Millimeter Wave (PMMW) sensors are used for remote sensing and security applications. They rely on radiometric receivers to sense very small power differences. The performance of radiometric receivers should be characterized in different ways than communications and radar receivers. In communications we typically think in terms of carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) or signal-to-noise ratio (S...

Optimized compressive sampling for passive millimeter-wave imaging.

In this paper, we briefly describe a single detector passive millimeter-wave imaging system, which has been previously presented. The system uses a cyclic sensing matrix to acquire incoherent measurements of the observed scene and then reconstructs the image using a Bayesian approach. The cyclic nature of the sensing matrix allows for the design of a single unified and compact mask that provide...
